Format conversion decodes source pixels and encodes them as JPG, PNG or WebP. PixHandy accepts common raster files, sanitizes SVG markup, states when AVIF or BMP depends on the browser, opens supported pages from a bounded classic TIFF in document order, and reads the embedded flattened composite from compatible Photoshop PSD files.

What PixHandy changes

  • Accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, the first frame of GIF, sanitized SVG, browser-decodable AVIF or BMP, and the bounded compressed TIFF and PSD subsets described below.
  • Updates the filename extension and MIME type to match the actual output bytes.
  • Removes common embedded metadata through pixel re-encoding.

Before you download

  • JPG has no transparency; transparent pixels receive a solid background.
  • Animated GIF input becomes its first decoded frame; use the GIF maker to create animation.
  • TIFF conversion creates a separate sharing copy for each page you open; it does not preserve the TIFF container, page structure, high bit depth, print, archival, ICC or geospatial metadata.
  • PSD conversion is also for a sharing copy. CMYK and Lab input become bounded screen approximations, not color-critical proofs. It does not reproduce editable layers, masks, text, effects, plates, spot channels, color profiles or Photoshop metadata; keep the original PSD.
  • SVG scripts, event handlers, linked resources and active markup are removed, so unsafe or externally dependent art may look different.

Which format is best for transparency?

Use PNG for broad lossless support or WebP for smaller files when your target supports it.

Why can AVIF or BMP be rejected?

Those inputs rely on the decoder built into the current browser. PixHandy checks support and gives a clear message instead of claiming a conversion happened.

Which TIFF files work?

PixHandy accepts supported pages from classic stripped, chunky 8-bit grayscale, RGB, declared-alpha RGBA or palette TIFF files stored uncompressed, with PackBits, LZW, Deflate or old Deflate compression. Horizontal differencing is supported only with LZW or Deflate. Each page can be 8,192 pixels per side, 12 megapixels and 256 strips; opening every supported page is limited to 16 pages and 16 megapixels combined, each TIFF can be 25 MB, and TIFF sources in a batch can total 150 MB. Every page must meet the same subset. BigTIFF, tiled, separate-plane, other-orientation, JPEG, CCITT and higher-bit-depth variants are rejected; keep the original TIFF.

Which PSD files work?

PixHandy accepts PSD version 1 files with an embedded flattened 8- or 16-bit RGB or grayscale composite using up to four channels, an exactly four-channel CMYK composite, an exactly three-channel Lab composite, or an 8-bit indexed composite with one palette-index channel and an exact 256-color RGB palette. Raw, RLE and ZIP work at both depths; ZIP with prediction is 8-bit only. Every source becomes an ordinary 8-bit flat sharing copy. CMYK uses a deterministic screen approximation; Lab uses a deterministic D50-to-D65 sRGB conversion. Neither is a color-critical proof. A PSD can be 25 MB, 8,192 pixels per side and 10 megapixels; a batch can contain 10 PSD files, 100 MB of PSD sources and 30 megapixels of decoded PSD composites. Layers, plates, spot channels, palette identity and color profiles are not reproduced; PSB, 32-bit, duotone and multichannel files are not supported.
