How to upscale an image

Enlargement creates a larger pixel grid by interpolating the source and optionally applying restrained detail control. It can make an image suitable for a larger layout, but it cannot restore information that was never captured.

    Inspect the source

    Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP and judge whether blur, compression artifacts or tiny source dimensions will remain visible after enlargement.

    Choose a restrained scale

    Start with the smallest supported enlargement that satisfies the destination and compare the optional detail treatment rather than assuming more pixels mean more information.

    Inspect faces, text, edges and textures at the final dimensions before selecting the output format and downloading.

What does progressive resampling change?

It builds the larger grid in controlled stages so interpolation is less abrupt. The process redistributes existing visual information; it does not reconstruct an unseen scene.

When should detail control stay low?

Keep it restrained around skin, fine patterns, halos and already-compressed edges, where aggressive sharpening can emphasize artifacts.

Know the limits

  • A blurred or heavily compressed source retains those underlying limitations when enlarged.
  • Unsafe final canvas dimensions or memory estimates are rejected before the enlarged result is created.

Common questions

Does a larger pixel grid recover lost detail?

No. Resampling estimates intermediate pixels from the source and the detail control adjusts local contrast; neither can reveal information absent from the file.

Why can a larger setting look worse?

Greater enlargement also magnifies blur, ringing and compression artifacts. A restrained scale often preserves a more natural result.
